Path of Exile 2's challenging endgame has sparked debate among players, prompting a response from developers. Co-directors Mark Roberts and Jonathan Rogers defended the difficulty in a recent interview, emphasizing the importance of meaningful consequences for death. They argued that the current system, which includes potential experience loss and demanding encounters, prevents players from progressing too quickly beyond their capabilities. Rogers stated, "If you’re dying all the time then you’re probably not ready to keep going up the power curve."

The game, released in December 2024, features a revamped skill system and 100 challenging endgame maps accessible after completing the main story. While the initial 2025 patch addressed bugs and performance issues, the endgame's difficulty remains a point of contention. The developers acknowledge player feedback and are reviewing the various elements contributing to the challenge, aiming to strike a balance between difficulty and a rewarding experience.

The endgame unfolds within the intricate Atlas of Worlds, requiring players to conquer challenging maps and defeat powerful bosses. This demanding content, designed for experienced players, necessitates strategic build optimization and skillful gameplay. While helpful guides exist, the high difficulty continues to present a significant hurdle for many. The developers' stance, however, remains firm: the current design, with its potential for failure, is integral to the game's core experience. They believe altering the difficulty significantly would fundamentally change the game's feel.
