Players don't trust ranked in Marvel Rivals and stats prove it

By OwenApr 15,2025

Recent statistics about the rank distribution in Marvel Rivals on PC, shared across social media, have sparked both intrigue and concern among the gaming community. A key focal point is the distribution of players within the Bronze tier. Notably, all players who reach level 10 in Marvel Rivals are automatically placed in Bronze 3, after which they must engage in ranked matches to climb the ranks.

In typical competitive games, transitioning from Bronze 3 to Bronze 2 is designed to be relatively straightforward. Game developers often aim for a rank distribution that mirrors a Gaussian curve, or bell curve, where the majority of players find themselves in the middle ranks, such as Gold. In this model, the system is structured to "pull" players towards the center, rewarding wins with more points than losses to facilitate movement up the ranks.

However, the current data for Marvel Rivals deviates significantly from this expected norm. There are four times more players stuck in Bronze 3 compared to Bronze 2, and the overall rank distribution does not follow a Gaussian pattern. This unusual concentration at the lower end of the spectrum suggests a lack of engagement with the ranking system. The reasons behind this could be multifaceted, but it represents a potentially alarming sign for NetEase, the game's developer. A disinterested player base in the ranking system might indicate broader issues with game mechanics, player satisfaction, or the appeal of competitive play within Marvel Rivals.
