Capcom Launches First-Ever Game Development Competition
Capcom is fostering industry growth through education with its inaugural Capcom Games Competition, a student-focused game development tournament. This initiative aims to strengthen the video game industry by bridging the gap between industry professionals and academic institutions.
Boosting Game Development Talent
This groundbreaking competition empowers Japanese university, graduate, and vocational school students to collaborate on game creation using Capcom's proprietary RE ENGINE. Teams of up to 20 students will be formed, each member assuming a role mirroring real-world game development positions. The six-month development period will include mentorship from experienced Capcom developers, providing invaluable insights into cutting-edge game development techniques. Winning teams will receive support for potential commercialization of their projects.
Competition Details
The competition is open to Japanese students aged 18 and older, enrolled in eligible educational institutions. Applications open December 9, 2024, and close January 17, 2025 (unless otherwise stated).
RE ENGINE: Powering Innovation
The competition utilizes Capcom's RE ENGINE (Reach for the Moon Engine), initially created for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in 2017. This powerful engine has since powered numerous Capcom titles, including recent Resident Evil installments, Dragon's Dogma 2, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds. Its ongoing development ensures continued high-quality game production.
This competition represents a significant step towards nurturing future game development talent and strengthening the industry as a whole.
