Deltarune Chapter 4 Development Update: Almost Ready, But Not Quite
Toby Fox, creator of Undertale, recently shared exciting news about the progress of Deltarune in his latest newsletter. While Chapter 4 is nearing completion, the simultaneous release of Chapters 3 and 4 on PC, Switch, and PS4 is still some time away.
Chapter 4 is in the polishing phase. All maps are finished and battles are playable, but some fine-tuning remains. This includes minor adjustments to cutscenes, battle balancing, visual improvements, background enhancements, and refining ending sequences for a couple of battles. Despite this, Fox considers the chapter essentially playable, and early feedback from testers has been positive.
The multi-platform and multilingual release presents significant challenges. Fox emphasized the importance of taking extra time to ensure quality, especially since this is their first major paid release since Undertale. The team faces several key tasks before launch: testing new features, finalizing PC and console versions, Japanese localization, and rigorous bug testing.
Chapter 3 development is complete, according to a previous newsletter. Interestingly, some team members have already begun preliminary work on Chapter 5, designing maps and bullet patterns.
While a specific release date remains unannounced, the newsletter offered a preview of Ralsei and Rouxls' dialogue, a character description for Elnina, and a new item, the GingerGuard. Fans, despite the wait, are encouraged by Fox's confirmation that Chapters 3 and 4 combined will be longer than the first two chapters. He anticipates a smoother release schedule for future chapters once Chapters 3 and 4 are launched.
