Bend Studio, the developer behind Days Gone, remains committed to creating exciting new projects, despite Sony's recent cancellation of their unannounced live-service game. This follows Sony's decision to also cancel a live-service God of War title in development at Bluepoint Games. While neither studio will be closed, Sony acknowledged the challenges faced with its live-service strategy, citing the significant underperformance of Concord as a key learning experience. This failure, coupled with the cancellation of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us multiplayer project, highlights the difficulties Sony has encountered in this area. In contrast, Arrowhead's Helldivers 2 achieved remarkable success, selling 12 million copies in just 12 weeks. Sony executives attributed Concord's failure to internal organizational issues, poor timing, and a lack of early user testing and internal evaluations. They emphasized the need for improved communication and collaboration between teams, better release window planning to avoid cannibalization, and earlier implementation of development gates. Despite these setbacks, Sony continues to pursue live-service titles, with projects from Bungie (Marathon), Guerrilla (Horizon Online), and Haven Studios (Fairgame$) still in development. Bend Studio's community manager reassured fans that the studio plans to continue developing compelling games. Their last release was Days Gone* in 2019, subsequently ported to PC in 2021.
