How to Use Voodoo Doll in Phasmophobia

By CamilaMar 18,2025

In the thrilling world of Phasmophobia, tracking down the most elusive and dangerous ghosts often requires using items that are just as risky as the specters themselves. The Voodoo Doll is one such item, offering a potentially powerful but perilous path to identifying your ghostly adversary. This guide details how to acquire and effectively utilize this cursed possession.

The Voodoo Doll, despite its inherent risks, offers a favorable risk-reward ratio in Phasmophobia. While game updates have adjusted its effectiveness, it remains a valuable tool. Its primary function is to provoke the ghost into revealing evidence. This is achieved by sequentially inserting pins into the doll. This is particularly useful when dealing with a reticent or elusive ghost, forcing it to manifest evidence like EMF5 readings or ultraviolet fingerprints.

Ten pins can be inserted, each provoking the ghost. However, be warned: each pin insertion costs 5% of your sanity. Inserting all ten pins will deplete 50% of your sanity, significantly increasing the risk of a ghost hunt.

The most significant risk lies in the heart pin. Pin insertion is random; if you hit the heart pin, you'll lose 10% sanity and immediately trigger a cursed hunt. This results in a prolonged and intensely close ghost hunt (20 seconds longer than a standard hunt).

Despite the risks, the potential for gathering crucial evidence makes the Voodoo Doll a worthwhile tool for well-prepared players.

What Are Cursed Objects (Possessions) in Phasmophobia?

Cursed Possessions (often called "Cursed Objects") are unique items randomly appearing on any Phasmophobia map, although their appearance may depend on difficulty and game mode (e.g., Challenge Mode).

Unlike standard equipment, which safely helps locate and identify ghosts, Cursed Objects offer shortcuts to manipulate the ghost, but at considerable risk to your character's sanity. The risk varies between objects, making careful consideration essential before use. There's no penalty for choosing not to use them. Only one Cursed Possession spawns per contract (unless modified in custom settings).

Seven Cursed Objects exist:

  • Haunted Mirror
  • Voodoo Doll
  • Music Box
  • Tarot Cards
  • Ouija Board
  • Monkey Paw
  • Summoning Circle
