Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director's Insights on Mods and Potential DLC
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shared details about the game's PC port, addressing player interest in mods and the possibility of future downloadable content (DLC). The interview, featured on the Epic Games blog on December 13th, revealed some interesting insights.
Initially, the development team considered adding episodic DLC to the PC version. However, prioritizing the completion of the final game in the trilogy ultimately led them to forgo this idea. Hamaguchi stated that finishing the main storyline is their "highest priority," leaving DLC development for a later time.
While no DLC plans are currently in place, Hamaguchi expressed openness to player feedback. He indicated that significant player demand could influence the decision to create future DLC for the PC version.
A Message to the Modding Community
The PC release will undoubtedly attract the modding community. While the game lacks official mod support, Hamaguchi addressed modders directly: "We respect the creativity of the modding community and welcome their creations—though we ask modders not to create or install anything offensive or inappropriate."
This request acknowledges the potential benefits of modding, such as enhanced visuals and gameplay, while setting reasonable boundaries to ensure a positive player experience. The director's comment highlights the delicate balance between encouraging community creativity and maintaining the game's intended atmosphere.
PC Version Enhancements
The PC port boasts improved graphics, including enhanced lighting and texture resolutions, addressing some of the criticisms leveled at the original PS5 release. These improvements leverage the capabilities of higher-end PC hardware. The team also noted challenges in adapting the mini-games for PC controls.
The PC version of FF7 Rebirth launches January 23rd, 2025, on Steam and the Epic Games Store. This second installment of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, originally released on PS5 on February 9th, 2024, aims to provide a refined and enhanced experience for PC players.
