The indie roguelike Balatro, developed by a single person, continues to defy expectations. Following its surprise success last year, Balatro has now sold over 5 million copies, a remarkable feat for an indie title.
Just a month ago, sales stood at 3.5 million. This astonishing growth of 1.5 million copies in approximately 40 days is likely attributable to the impact of The Game Awards, as hinted by the developer, LocalThunk.
Playstack CEO, Harvey Elliott, lauded this achievement, expressing pride in both LocalThunk and his publishing team.
Balatro's success isn't waning. The card-based roguelike remains popular, consistently receiving updates and collaborative content, recently even setting a new record for concurrent players on Steam. This demonstrates the game's enduring appeal nearly a year after its initial release.
