Former BioWare Developers Address Nightingale's Shortcomings
Summer Update to Restructure Nightingale
In a recent YouTube video, Inflexion Games' Aaryn Flynn and Neil Thomson acknowledged dissatisfaction with *Nightingale*'s current state, including player numbers and overall reception since its February early access launch. A major update, slated for late summer, aims to directly address these concerns.Flynn highlighted the team's commitment to improving the game, stating their dissatisfaction with the current player experience and metrics. While previous efforts focused on quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes—including the highly-requested offline mode—the upcoming update will tackle more fundamental issues.
Thomson described the game's open-world design as "almost too open world," leading to a lack of clear direction and player progression. The update will introduce more structured gameplay, including clearer progression markers, defined goals, and improved realm design to alleviate the current "samey and repetitive" feeling.
The developers emphasized their dedication to refining Nightingale's core mechanics and enhancing the overall experience. The update will also increase build limits, allowing for larger and more complex player structures. Flynn promised previews of this new content in the coming weeks.
Despite currently holding "Mixed" reviews on Steam, Nightingale is seeing a rise in positive reviews (approximately 68% of recent reviews are positive). Flynn and Thomson expressed appreciation for player feedback and their ongoing support. Flynn concluded by stating that while further work is needed, the team believes the upcoming update will significantly improve the game.
