Assassin’s Creed Shadows introduces a dynamic transmogging feature, allowing players to customize their weapons and gear to match their preferred aesthetic while maintaining desired stats. Dive into the details of the game's progression and customization options to enhance your gameplay experience.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Provides A Deep Dive on Progression
Transmogging and Weapon Customization
Assassin’s Creed Shadows (AC Shadows) offers an immersive progression system, highlighted by its innovative transmog feature. According to a detailed post on the game's website dated March 1, 2025, players can tailor their weapons to their liking. AC Shadows Associate Game Director Julien explained the team's vision for customization, emphasizing the importance of player choice in aesthetics and performance.
The transmog feature allows players to alter the appearance of their weapons while retaining their stats. This is achieved by building a Forge in the Hideout, which once constructed, becomes accessible from the inventory menu. Julien noted, "The Forge is central to managing your inventory, where you can upgrade or dismantle weapons and gear. We'll cover more on the Hideout in a future article." Players can also mix and match elements from different weapons, such as combining the blade of one with the guard of another and the handle of a third, offering extensive customization options.
New Progression Loop
During IGN Fan Fest 2025, AC Shadows’ Creative Director Charles Benoit discussed the game’s combat mechanics and progression. A subsequent post from Ubisoft delved deeper into the progression system, particularly how it integrates with the game's dual protagonists.
Julien elaborated on the challenges and opportunities presented by having two protagonists in the feudal Japan setting, saying, "Having two separate characters with unique archetypes pushed us to rethink player progression, aiming to stay true to the philosophy of mastery and martial arts."
Mastery, Abilities, and Knowledge Ranks
AC Shadows features unique Mastery trees for its protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke, tailored to their distinct roles as a shinobi/assassin and samurai, respectively. Julien stated, "The Mastery trees allow players to focus on a specific weapon, playstyle, or archetype, deepening their mastery and unlocking additional bonuses."
Abilities within these Mastery trees provide new gameplay mechanics and increased damage potential. Access to certain abilities and Mastery points is contingent upon reaching specific Knowledge Ranks, which players can elevate through non-violent activities like discovering Lost Pages in temples, praying at Shrines, practicing Kuji-kiri Meditation for Naoe, or learning new Kata for Yasuke.
Customizing Your Playstyle
AC Shadows empowers players to craft their ultimate playstyle through various customization options. Perks enable players to "modify, enhance, or specialize equipment," offering stat boosts, affliction influences, or new gameplay conditions that encourage diverse playstyles.
Despite their initial archetypes, Naoe and Yasuke can be played in varied ways. The game's post highlighted potential builds, showcasing the depth of customization. Naoe can adopt an exotic combat style, enhancing ground attacks for quick engagements and disengagements, while Yasuke can be geared towards stealth and ranged combat, with perks and abilities enhancing these attributes.
With the excitement building around AC Shadows' upcoming release, fans eagerly anticipate experiencing these detailed customization and progression systems firsthand.
