Lost Soul Aside ditches PSN Linking for PC Release
Lost Soul Aside, the highly anticipated Sony-published action RPG, will launch on PC in 2025 without the controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. This significant change expands the game's potential market, allowing Sony to sell the title in regions unsupported by PSN.
Developed by UltiZeroGames, Lost Soul Aside emerged from PlayStation's China Hero Project. This Devil May Cry-inspired hack-and-slash title has been in development for nearly nine years. While Sony is publishing the game for both PS5 and PC, the initial mandate of PSN linking for PC titles, implemented last year, faced considerable player backlash. This requirement barred sales in over 100 countries lacking PSN support.
However, Lost Soul Aside's Steam page initially mentioned the PSN requirement, only to remove it the following day after the December 2024 gameplay trailer. This suggests a deliberate decision by Sony to prioritize broader accessibility.
A Shift in Sony's PC Strategy?
This marks the second time Sony has reversed its PSN linking policy for a PC title, the first being Helldivers 2. This reversal suggests a potential softening of Sony's stance on the requirement for future PlayStation PC releases. The decision may be driven by the less-than-stellar PC performance of PSN-linked titles, such as God of War Ragnarök, which saw significantly lower player counts on Steam compared to its predecessor.
While Sony's exact reasoning remains unclear, the move likely reflects a desire to maximize Lost Soul Aside's reach and sales potential by removing a significant barrier to entry for a large portion of the PC gaming market. The absence of the PSN requirement is welcome news for PC gamers worldwide.
