Essences are collectible items used in crafting. Found through various activities, they serve as building blocks and paint components. Some are readily gathered (apples, flowers), while others require specific interactions.

Three main Essence categories exist: Emotions, Living Things, and Objects. Each has a thematic link, helping you create items that please Sims based on their personality. Most Essences function as physical objects or custom paint ingredients in Build Mode.
