After more than a decade of absence, the beloved Suikoden series is poised for a triumphant return. The upcoming HD remaster of the first two games aims to reignite the franchise's popularity and pave the path for future installments.

The Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster is more than just a visual upgrade; it's a revival. Director Tatsuya Ogushi and Lead Planner Takahiro Sakiyama hope this remaster will not only introduce a new generation of players to the series but also rekindle the enthusiasm of longtime fans.

In a Famitsu interview (translated via Google), Ogushi and Sakiyama expressed their aspirations for the remaster to act as a springboard for future Suikoden titles. Ogushi, deeply connected to the series, acknowledged the late Yoshitaka Murayama, the series creator, sharing his belief that Murayama would have been thrilled to be involved. Sakiyama, who directed Suikoden V, expressed his strong desire to reintroduce Suikoden to a broader audience, hoping to see the franchise flourish.

Based on the 2006 Japan-exclusive PlayStation Portable collection, this remaster brings enhanced visuals and gameplay to modern platforms.

Visually stunning, the remaster boasts enhanced HD backgrounds, creating immersive and detailed environments. Expect breathtaking locations, from the majestic Gregminster castles to the war-torn battlefields of Suikoden 2. While the pixel art sprites are polished, the original artistic style remains intact.

A new Gallery mode, accessible from the title screen, offers access to the game's music, cutscenes, and an event viewer to revisit memorable moments.

This isn't just a simple port; the remaster addresses previous issues. The infamous shortened Luca Blight cutscene from the PSP version of Suikoden 2 has been restored. Furthermore, some dialogue has been updated to reflect modern sensibilities; for example, Richmond no longer smokes, aligning with Japan's smoking bans.
