Sony Cutting PS4 Games from PlayStation Plus Next Year

By MaxApr 18,2025

Sony has announced a significant shift in its PlayStation Plus strategy, focusing exclusively on PlayStation 5 starting January 2026. This change was revealed alongside the February 2025 monthly game titles on the PlayStation Blog, indicating that PS4 games will no longer be a primary feature of the PlayStation Plus Essentials monthly games and the Games Catalog.

"As we shift to PS5, PS4 games will no longer be a key benefit and will only be occasionally offered for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog," Sony stated. This transition will not impact the PS4 titles that subscribers have already claimed, but PS4 games in the Games Catalog will remain available until they are cycled out during the monthly updates.

Sony is committed to enhancing the PlayStation Plus experience, promising to continue optimizing benefits such as exclusive discounts, online multiplayer access, and online game save storage. "As we shift our focus to PS5, we look forward to adding new PS5 titles monthly for you to enjoy," the company added.

The PlayStation 4, launched in 2013, has been succeeded by the PlayStation 5 in 2020. Sony noted that "many of our players are currently playing on PS5 and have shifted toward redeeming and accessing PS5 titles."

It remains uncertain whether Sony will reclassify PS4 games to the Classics Catalog, which currently includes titles from PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3. Further details on this are expected to be announced closer to the implementation date.
