Sony's PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures are teaming up to bring the acclaimed video game, Helldivers 2, to the big screen. The exciting announcement was made at CES 2025 by Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions. While specifics remain under wraps, Qizilbash confirmed the project is underway, promising fans a cinematic spectacle of epic space battles.
Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a critically-acclaimed shooter drawing inspiration from the classic Starship Troopers. The game achieved phenomenal success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged further with the recent Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers.
Adding to the excitement, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Productions and Columbia Pictures—the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie. Qizilbash offered a preliminary glimpse into the project, stating, “We're in the early stages of development for the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure viewers that this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic treatment.”
