Rocksteady Seeks Game Director for New Batman Title

By LaylaApr 15,2025

Rocksteady Studios, renowned for its work on the Batman: Arkham series, is embarking on its next major project. The studio is currently in the process of hiring a Game Director, as indicated by a job listing posted by Warner Bros. Discovery on February 17. This move signals the early stages of development for what could be an exciting new title.

The job description outlines that the Game Director will be responsible for crafting a "high-quality game design" that spans core gameplay mechanics, player progression, combat systems, and mission design. The ideal candidate needs to have a broad experience across genres, including third-person action, open-world adventures, and melee combat games. These requirements have fueled speculation that Rocksteady might be returning to the beloved Batman universe, which aligns well with the studio's past successes and the specified game design elements.

The Batman: Arkham series, which propelled Rocksteady to fame, is a perfect match for these criteria, unlike their most recent release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which leaned more towards gunplay than the hand-to-hand combat that fans associate with Batman. Given that Rocksteady is still in the initial hiring phase, the project is likely in its conceptual stages. Industry insider Jason Schreier has mentioned that should Rocksteady decide to develop a new single-player Batman game, fans might have to wait several years before its release.

Rocksteady's latest game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, was released on February 2, 2024, available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. The game has garnered mixed reviews, with a Metacritic score of 63 from critics and a user score of 4.2 out of 10, reflecting varied reception among players.

Rumors have also circulated about Rocksteady potentially exploring a project inspired by the Batman Beyond animated series, further stoking excitement and speculation among fans about what the future holds for the studio and the Batman franchise.
