RGG Studio, currently developing a brand-new IP alongside the next Like a Dragon installment and a Virtua Fighter remake (slated for 2025), recently announced two additional projects. Studio head and director Masayoshi Yokoyama credits Sega's risk-taking culture for these opportunities.

In early December, RGG unveiled trailers for both Project Century (a new IP set in 1915 Japan, showcased at The Game Awards 2025) and a new Virtua Fighter project (distinct from the upcoming Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O remaster). The scale and ambition of these projects highlight Sega's unwavering confidence in RGG Studio's capabilities. This reflects a blend of trust and a shared commitment to exploring uncharted territory.

Embracing Failure for Innovation

"Sega accepts the possibility of failure; it doesn't just stick to safe bets," Yokoyama explained to Famitsu (translated by Automaton Media). He suggests this risk tolerance is ingrained in Sega's DNA, citing the evolution from the early Virtua Fighter IP to the creation of Shenmue – born from the question, "What if we made 'VF' into an RPG?"

RGG Studio assures fans that the simultaneous development of these projects won't compromise quality, particularly for the Virtua Fighter franchise. Original creator Yu Suzuki has expressed his support, and the team, including producer Riichiro Yamada, is committed to delivering a high-quality product.
