The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i is a marvel, featuring a 16" 2560x1600 240Hz OLED display that brings games to life with vivid colors and deep blacks. Under the hood, it's powered by the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, a significant leap from the energy-efficient Core Ultra 9 185H found in previous models, offering performance that truly rivals the i9-14900HX. Paired with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, 32GB of DDR5-6400MHz RAM, and a robust 2TB (2x1TB) SSD storage, this laptop is ready to handle the most demanding games.
The Legion Pro 7i also keeps pace with the latest connectivity options, including WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, along with versatile ports such as USB Type-C with up to 140W Power Delivery, Thunderbolt 4 with DisplayPort 2.1 (40Gbps), and a USB Type-A port with USB 3.2 Gen 2 specifications. Gamers will appreciate the inclusion of an RJ45 ethernet port, a rarity these days, and a privacy shutter for the webcam. The chassis, crafted from durable aluminum and magnesium, ensures both longevity and a premium feel.
We've Reviewed an RTX 5080 Equipped Gaming Laptop
While we await our hands-on review of the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 10, we've had the opportunity to test a gaming laptop featuring the RTX 5080 GPU. The RTX 5080 shows marginal improvements over the RTX 4080 in terms of raw rasterized performance, but where it truly shines is with games that support DLSS 4.0 and multi-frame generation technology.
Our review of the Gigabyte Aorus Master, which also sports an RTX 5080 with a 150W TGP rating and a 2560x1600 display, suggests that the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i should deliver comparable gaming performance.
Gigabyte Aorus Master 16" RTX 5080 Laptop Review by Chris Coke
"Here's the thing: Nvidia hasn't been shy about tying the 50-series to its AI capabilities rather than pure native rendering performance. Though the RTX 5080 performs disappointingly close to the RTX 4080, this gap narrows when you're playing games that leverage multi-frame generation. While 'fake frames' might be a bit of a meme, the technology, when implemented well, can dramatically enhance performance. The effectiveness varies from game to game, with titles like Alan Wake 2 feeling slightly laggy at higher settings, while Cyberpunk 2077 handles it seamlessly. With emerging technologies like neural shaders on the horizon, investing in these future capabilities is a bet on Nvidia and game developers to expand support in both new and existing titles."
