Obsidian's CEO Remains Confident in Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed
Positive Outlook for Obsidian's Upcoming Games
In a YouTube interview with Limit Break Network, Urquhart confirmed that *The Outer Worlds 2*, the highly anticipated sequel to the acclaimed space RPG, is making solid progress. He praised the dedicated team, many of whom worked on the original game, highlighting their expertise and commitment.Urquhart openly acknowledged the difficulties faced during the pandemic and post-acquisition integration. The simultaneous development of multiple titles, including Grounded and Pentiment, significantly taxed the studio's resources. He admitted a period of strained development, even mentioning initial discussions about pausing The Outer Worlds 2 to focus on Avowed. However, Obsidian ultimately persevered, continuing development on all projects.
"We were juggling acquisition, the pandemic, finishing Outer Worlds and its DLC, pushing forward Avowed, restarting Outer Worlds 2, managing Grounded, and Josh working on Pentiment," Urquhart recalled, illustrating the demanding period.
Despite the hurdles, Urquhart expressed satisfaction with the outcomes, noting the success of Grounded and Pentiment. He further stated that Avowed is shaping up well, and The Outer Worlds 2 is looking "incredible." While specific game details remain undisclosed, the recent delay of Avowed to 2025 suggests potential scheduling adjustments for other projects.
Announced in 2021, The Outer Worlds 2 has seen limited updates. Urquhart acknowledged this and the possibility of a launch date shift, similar to Avowed. However, he emphasized Obsidian's commitment to delivering high-quality games. "We'll deliver on all these games," he stated. "Will they meet our initial timelines? Probably not. But we'll get there, and that's been proven." Both The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed are slated for release on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
