Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Delay in Canada Due to Tariffs

By CalebApr 24,2025

Gamers were hit with a wave of disappointment last week when the eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows when?" This sudden change came after import tariffs introduced by President Trump sent financial markets into a tailspin, with the ripple effects felt even across the border. Nintendo Canada has confirmed that preorders in their region are also affected, dashing hopes of securing a console through cross-border arrangements.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada in an announcement to the Canadian tech site, MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start on April 9, 2025, to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged.

As the original pre-order date of tomorrow approaches, there's still no clarity on when eager fans can start their online pre-order attempts, leaving gamers in a state of uncertainty and worried about potential price hikes beyond the initially announced $449.99.

Meanwhile, in the UK, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already commenced today, with smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths quickly selling out. Scalpers have taken advantage of the situation, listing pre-orders on eBay for £500 ($639) or more, significantly above the official retail price of £395.99 ($506).
