Mask Around: The Sequel to Mask Up Delivers More Gooey Action!
Following the 2020 release of the unique roguelike platformer Mask Up, developer Rouli is back with a sequel that expands on the original's bizarre charm: Mask Around. This time, the yellow ooze returns, but with a twist – you'll be combining run-and-gun action with the brawling mechanics of its predecessor.
Remember the original Mask Up, where you evolved from a simple puddle of yellow goo into a more substantial (yet still gooey) form? Mask Around retains that core gameplay, but adds a significant new element: 2D shooting. Players can now seamlessly switch between gunning down enemies and using their goo-based abilities to smash their way through levels.
However, the all-important yellow ooze remains a limited resource, demanding careful management, especially during challenging boss fights. Keep a close eye on that meter!
A New Layer of Strategy
Available now on Google Play (with an iOS release yet to be announced), Mask Around appears to be a genuine evolution of the original formula. While retaining the core gameplay loop, it introduces strategic depth by requiring players to carefully balance the use of their goo powers and weaponry. The improved graphics add a polished feel to the experience.
Having not played the original, I can still appreciate the significant advancements in Mask Around. The addition of shooting mechanics adds a new layer of strategy, forcing players to make tactical decisions about resource management and combat approaches.
