Image Comics provides this synopsis:
In Lost Fantasy, a hidden magical world exists beneath our own. First contact occurred over a century ago following a natural disaster, creating a rift that unleashed monsters. Since then, elite monster hunters, "The Great Hunters," have collaborated with global leaders to safeguard our world. However, a recent massacre in Montana signals a significant shift, threatening both worlds. Rookie monster hunter, Henry Blackheart, must confront this new threat.
Pires shared with IGN:
“I’m thrilled to be back at Image Comics with Lost Fantasy, a series blending my love for Western comics like East of West and Something is Killing the Children with the immersive world-building and action of the JRPGs I grew up with.” He cites Final Fantasy's influence, particularly Tetsuya Nomura's character designs, as inspiration for the protagonist's appearance. He also acknowledges the subtle homage to Hironobu Sakaguchi's Lost Odyssey.
