"GTA 5 Enhanced Edition Receives Lowest User Reviews on Steam"

By LucyApr 27,2025

Rockstar's latest release, Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced, launched on March 4th, has not been well-received by the Steam community, earning a 'mixed' user review rating with only 54% of the 19,772 reviews being positive. This contrasts sharply with the original GTA 5 on Steam, which, despite being unlisted and no longer searchable on Valve's platform, boasts a 'very positive' user review rating.

Currently, GTA 5 Enhanced holds the dubious honor of being the lowest-rated GTA game on Steam, with Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition coming in second with a 66% positive rating. GTA 5 Enhanced offers a free upgrade for PC players, bringing features like those seen in the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of GTA Online. These include access to Hao’s Special Works for vehicles and performance upgrades, animal encounters, and the option to purchase a GTA+ Membership, alongside enhanced graphics and faster loading times. Existing PC players can migrate their Story Mode and Online progress to this new version at no cost.

However, the process of migrating accounts has been fraught with issues, contributing significantly to the negative feedback. Many players have reported problems with the migration process, with some expressing frustration over not being able to transfer their hard-earned progress. Comments from players include complaints about being unable to migrate profiles and dissatisfaction with Rockstar's customer support, which has been unable to resolve these issues effectively.

Despite the backlash, GTA 5 Enhanced continues to be highly popular on Steam, with a peak concurrent player count of 187,059 since its launch. The rocky reception has raised concerns among PC gamers about the potential launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 on PC, especially since GTA 6 is set to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in the fall of 2025, with no confirmed PC release date yet. A former Rockstar developer has urged PC gamers to remain patient and trust in the studio's plans.

In related news, Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar, has filed a lawsuit against PlayerAuctions for selling unauthorized GTA 5 content. Additionally, Rockstar has recently acquired and renamed Video Games Deluxe, the developer behind Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, to Rockstar Australia.
