Guillermo del Toro's lifelong fascination with Frankenstein mirrors the obsessive dedication of Dr. Frankenstein himself. A recent Netflix preview showcased a first-look image of Oscar Isaac as the iconic mad scientist in del Toro's long-awaited adaptation (see above).
In a video message, del Toro confessed, "This film has been in my thoughts since childhood—for 50 years. I've pursued it for 20 to 25 years. Some might even say I'm a bit obsessed with Frankenstein," gesturing to his extensive Frankenstein collection at his Bleak House.
Limited footage was shown, featuring Isaac's Victor Frankenstein confronting Mia Goth, a seemingly affluent aristocrat, and Jacob Elordi's portrayal of Frankenstein's monster—described as having long black hair, stitched gray skin, and piercing red eyes. This footage remains unavailable online.
Del Toro further elaborated, "Over the decades, the character has become intertwined with my soul, transforming into an autobiography. It's as personal as it gets."
The director's dedication to bringing this Frankenstein adaptation to life is undeniable. The film's lengthy development underscores his profound connection to the material. A trailer is anticipated this summer.
