The veil is thinning, and the wait is almost over! After a decade of anticipation, BioWare is set to officially announce the release date for Dragon Age: The Veilguard today, August 15th, with a special trailer premiering at 9:00 A.M. PDT (12:00 P.M. EDT).

"We’re excited to share this moment with our fans," the developers expressed on Twitter (X). BioWare has also laid out an exciting roadmap of upcoming reveals to keep the community engaged as we approach the launch. "In the coming weeks, we’ll also have high-level warrior combat gameplay, Companions Week, and more," the developers shared. Here’s a detailed look at the game's roadmap:

A Decade-Long Development

The development of Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been a saga in itself, spanning nearly a decade with numerous delays. The project kicked off in 2015, right after the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition. However, BioWare's attention shifted to Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem, pulling resources and talent away from what was then codenamed "Joplin." Additionally, the initial design didn't fit with the company's move towards live-service games, leading to a complete halt in development.

It wasn't until 2018 that The Veilguard was brought back to life under the new codename "Morrison." After years of hard work, the game was officially announced as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2022, before finally being renamed to Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Despite these challenges, the wait is nearly over. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is slated to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S this fall. So, mark your calendars and prepare to return to Thedas sooner than you might think!
