Deltarune’s Console Testing Going Smoothly

Toby Fox recently updated fans on his official Bluesky account, revealing that console testing for Deltarune is progressing well. Despite the ongoing work, Fox noted that the number of bugs has decreased, although testing for the PS5 has yet to begin.

"Still console testing. There are fewer bugs, but there's a lot to go through. (Haven't even tested PS5 yet)" Fox stated. He also mentioned that the team is working on integrating saves from the demo (Chapters 1 and 2) into the console versions. This feature, which allows players to carry over their progress to the full game, has only recently become possible thanks to new technology. "I hope it works!" Fox optimistically added.

With the beta testing showing promising results, a release date for Deltarune’s Chapters 3 and 4 could be on the horizon. Toby Fox has confirmed that these chapters are slated for release in 2025.

Fox Namedrops New Character, Tenna

Amidst the rigorous testing schedule, Toby Fox continues to engage fans with humorous mini-updates. Known for his love of internet memes and self-deprecating humor, Fox shared a playful insight into his development process:

"I showed my family and friends a minigame I've been working on for DR (Deltarune) and they all described it as ‘a cry for help because your game is not out’" Fox posted on social media. He added that his family saw it as a positive sign, while his friend couldn't stop laughing at him for about 10 minutes.

This update has sparked speculation among fans, especially since Fox mentioned in 2024 that the content for Chapters 3 and 4 was complete. Some believe the minigame might be a sneak peek into Chapter 5, as Deltarune is planned to have seven chapters in total.

In the same post, Fox also mentioned a character named Tenna, sparking excitement among fans. "Same friend who played Chapter 3 like over a year ago also told me ‘I miss Tenna’ and I was like ‘man that's something no one in the world has ever said huh’" Tenna, a character yet to be officially revealed in the game, was first introduced during the Spamton Sweepstakes campaign on Deltarune's official website in September 2022 for the Child’s Play charity. Fox's mention confirms Tenna's appearance in the upcoming Chapter 3.

Deltarune serves as a parallel title and successor to the acclaimed 2015 game, Undertale. It retains many of the original's mechanics and quirks while introducing a fresh narrative and new characters. Players will join Kris, Susie, and Ralsei on a quest to save the world, eagerly awaiting the release of Chapters 3 and 4 in 2025.
