How to Connect Your PlayStation VR2 Headset to a PC: Step-by-Step Guide

By SarahMar 18,2025

Connecting your PlayStation VR2 headset to a gaming PC for SteamVR access was once a frustratingly limited prospect. But thankfully, Sony's $60 adapter (released last fall) now makes it possible, bridging the gap between console and PC VR gaming. However, while marketed as plug-and-play, some setup hurdles may arise depending on your PC configuration. This guide will walk you through a seamless connection.

Before you begin, ensure you have everything needed. The PS VR2 adapter offers broad SteamVR compatibility, but you'll need: sufficient Bluetooth 4.0 (built-in or via an adapter), a DisplayPort 1.4 cable, a free AC outlet, the Steam and PlayStation VR2 apps (installed on Steam), and of course, your PS VR2 headset and Sense controllers. Remember, the Sense controllers charge via USB-C, so have those cables and ports ready (or consider Sony's $50 charging station for convenience).

What You'll Need

PlayStation VR2 PC Adapter

First, verify your PC meets the PS VR2's minimum specs using Sony's official PS VR2 PC Adapter preparation page. Assuming compatibility, gather these items:

  • PlayStation VR2 headset
  • PlayStation VR2 PC adapter (includes AC adapter and USB 3.0 Type-A cable)
  • DisplayPort 1.4 cable (sold separately)
  • Free USB 3.0 Type-A port on your PC (Note: Sony advises against extension cables or external hubs, though a *powered* external hub may work.)
  • Bluetooth 4.0 capability (built-in or via an external adapter)
  • Steam and SteamVR installed
  • PlayStation VR2 app installed within Steam

How to Connect: Step-by-Step Instructions

With everything ready, follow these steps:

  1. Install Software: Download and install the Steam Windows client, SteamVR app, and the PlayStation VR2 app (all within Steam).
  2. Pair Controllers: Enable Bluetooth on your PC (Settings > Bluetooth & devices). On each Sense controller, press and hold the PlayStation and Create buttons until the light blinks. Pair them via your PC's "Add device" option. If using an external Bluetooth adapter alongside a built-in one, disable the built-in adapter in Device Manager.
  3. Connect Adapter: Plug the PS VR2 adapter into a USB 3.0 Type-A port. Connect it to your GPU's DisplayPort 1.4 port using the appropriate cable. Connect the AC adapter to the PS VR2 adapter and plug it into an outlet. The adapter's indicator will turn solid red.
  4. Connect Headset: Connect the PlayStation VR2 headset to the adapter's USB-C port.
  5. (Optional) Disable Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling: For newer GPUs (like Nvidia RTX 40-series), disabling this setting (Settings > System > Display > Graphics > Default graphics settings) might improve stability. Restart your PC after.
  6. Launch Apps and Setup: Power on the PS VR2 headset (hold the central button). Launch SteamVR, set it as your default OpenXR runtime, and open the PlayStation VR2 app. Follow on-screen instructions to configure your Play Area, IPD, and headset fit.

Can You Connect Without the Adapter?

Currently, direct connection without the adapter is unreliable. While some reports on Road to VR suggest that certain 2018-era GPUs with VirtualLink might allow this (with the PlayStation VR2 app installed), it's not a guaranteed solution.
