Confront Wakasa or Otama: The Assassin's Creed Shadows Dilemma

By HunterApr 20,2025

In *Assassin's Creed Shadows*, the choices you make during the "The Tea Ceremony" mission carry significant weight, particularly when deciding whether to confront Wakasa or Otama. This decision impacts the ease and outcome of the rest of your campaign. While both characters present themselves as potential suspects, only one choice simplifies the quest and provides a more straightforward path forward.

Should You Confront Wakasa or Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

After participating in the tea ceremony, the optimal choice is to confront Wakasa. She is the true Golden Teppo of the Onryo, and correctly identifying her allows for a swift and easy resolution. Upon confronting her, Wakasa will invite Naoe to her home for a private discussion. Once inside, you'll spot a kasa (straw hat) on her wall—the same one she wore as the Onryo during the prologue—confirming your decision.

The ensuing dialogue leads to a climactic moment where Naoe can end the mission quickly by grabbing Wakasa's Teppo from the wall and shooting her at point-blank range. This not only resolves the mission efficiently but also provides a satisfying cinematic kill, especially considering Wakasa's role in Naoe's father's death.

What If You Confront Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

If you mistakenly choose to confront Otama after the tea ceremony, you'll still eventually kill Wakasa, but the path becomes much more challenging. Confronting Otama leads Naoe on a chase, culminating in her death. Although you'll find a letter on Otama revealing her corruption, this misstep allows Wakasa to escape and fortify herself within Osaka castle.

To reach Wakasa, you must travel to Osaka castle and either fight her soldiers to get to her or attempt to sneak past them. If you've unlocked the nearby Osaka Tenshu fast travel point, you can get closer, though you'll still face standard enemies. Even if you manage a stealth assassination attempt on Wakasa, it won't be enough, leading to a one-on-one confrontation. While the boss fight isn't overly difficult, it adds complexity and effort to your mission.

Understanding the best decision after the Tea Ceremony mission can streamline your gameplay and enhance your experience.
