Lizzy Caplan, the actress slated to star opposite Channing Tatum in the now-canceled Gambit film, recently revealed the movie's unique vision. Speaking with Business Insider, Caplan described the project as having "a really cool idea," detailing its intended tone.
Tatum's long-fought journey to portray the beloved X-Men character seemed destined for failure before his surprise cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. His previous attempt at a solo Gambit film was shelved following the 2019 Disney-Fox merger. Tatum himself has openly discussed the disappointment, even describing the experience as "traumatizing."

Caplan, reportedly cast as the female lead as early as 2017, confirmed her involvement and meetings with Tatum. "We got down the road, we were gonna shoot it," she stated. "I think there was a start date.”
In 2018, producer Simon Kinberg described to IGN the film's intended "romantic or sex comedy vibe," aligning with Gambit's character. "When you look at Gambit," Kinberg explained, "he’s a hustler and a womanizer and we just felt like there was an attitude, a swagger to him, that lent itself to romantic comedy."
Caplan corroborated this, stating, "They wanted to do, like, a '30s kind of screwball romantic comedy set in that world, which would have been really fun."
The future of Tatum's Gambit remains uncertain. While Marvel Studios has confirmed the X-Men's eventual MCU arrival, Gambit's next appearance is yet to be announced. Last August, Ryan Reynolds' tweet of a high-quality Deadpool & Wolverine scene sparked significant fan speculation.
