Borderlands Movie Faces Backlash: Poor Reviews and Credit ControversyEli Roth's Borderlands film adaptation has debuted to scathing reviews. Rotten Tomatoes currently shows a dismal 6% rating from 49 critics. Prominent critics have been particularly harsh, with comments ranging from descriptions of the film as "wacko BS" to criticisms of its humor falling flat, despite acknowledging some positive design elements.

Early social media reactions echoed the negative sentiment, with viewers labeling the film "lifeless," "terrible," and "uninspired." However, a segment of Borderlands fans and moviegoers found enjoyment in the film's action and crude humor, resulting in a slightly more positive 49% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Some viewers even admitted to initially low expectations, ultimately finding the movie enjoyable despite lore changes.

Beyond the poor reviews, a controversy has erupted over uncredited work. Freelance rigger Robbie Reid, who worked on the Claptrap character, publicly revealed on Twitter (X) that neither he nor the character modeler received film credit. Reid expressed disappointment, particularly given his consistent past crediting. He speculated that the omission might be due to him and the artist leaving their studio in 2021, acknowledging the unfortunate prevalence of such oversights in the industry. He concluded by expressing his hope that the situation would spur industry-wide change regarding artist crediting.
