In the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid, securing your shelter is paramount. While finding a safe haven is relatively straightforward, protecting it from the relentless undead hordes is a whole different ball game. This guide details how to construct basic barricades, specifically focusing on the essential task of boarding up windows.
Boarding Up Windows in Project Zomboid
To effectively barricade your windows, you'll need specific materials: a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've gathered these items, simply right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window can accommodate up to four planks for enhanced protection.
Locating the necessary supplies is key. Hammers and nails are commonly found in typical locations like toolboxes, garages, sheds, and closets. Wooden planks are frequently discovered at construction sites, or, in a pinch, can be salvaged by dismantling wooden furniture (shelves and chairs). Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command to spawn items directly.
Barricaded windows offer significantly improved protection against zombie intrusions compared to unprotected windows. The more planks you add, the more time it takes for zombies to breach the defense. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." Note that you'll require either a claw hammer or a crowbar to accomplish this.
It's important to note that large furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators, etc.) cannot be used as effective window barriers. Characters and zombies will pass right through them. However, knowing how to move furniture remains a useful skill for interior arrangement.
While wooden planks provide a basic defense, more robust barricades can be constructed using metal bars or sheets. However, this requires sufficient Metalworking skill.
