Blizzard Offers Free Overwatch 2 Skin After Initial Sale

By AlexanderApr 24,2025

Blizzard finds itself at the heart of another controversy with Overwatch 2, this time revolving around the sale and subsequent free distribution of a new Lucio appearance, the Cyber DJ skin. Initially offered for $19.99 in the game's store, Blizzard announced just a day later that players could obtain the same skin for free by watching a special event broadcast on Twitch for an hour on February 12. This move left many players who had already purchased the skin feeling cheated and sparked widespread outrage among the community.

This isn't the first instance where Blizzard has sold cosmetic items only to later offer them for free through promotional events. As a result, players are now demanding refunds, feeling that the situation is unfair. The Cyber DJ skin has since been removed from the store, but Blizzard has yet to address the possibility of refunds publicly.

Amidst these challenges, Overwatch 2 faces stiff competition from Marvel Rivals, which is outperforming its competitors across the board. In response, Blizzard has announced plans for a significant Overwatch 2 Spotlight event, set to take place on February 12. During this broadcast, the company plans to unveil revolutionary gameplay changes, including new maps, heroes, and other content. To give fans a sneak peek at the upcoming updates, Blizzard will also host well-known streamers at their headquarters.
