Monster Hunter Wilds Rey Dau Boss Fight Guide

Known Habitats: Windward Plains Breakable Parts: Horns, Wings, Tail Recommended Elemental Attacks: Ice and Water Effective Status Effects: Poison (2x), Sleep (2x), Paralysis (1x), Blastblight (2x), Stun (1x), Exhaust (2x) Effective Items: Pitfall Trap, Flash Pod, Dung Pod
Rey Dau, the first dragon you'll face in Monster Hunter Wilds, possesses the lightning element, rendering it immune to lightning attacks. However, it's significantly vulnerable to ice and water-based attacks. Prioritize its head (4-star weakness) for maximum damage. Its wings (3-star weakness) are also a good target. Avoid its sturdy torso and well-protected legs. Utilize all status effects except Stun and Paralysis.
Use a Flash Pod
Employ Flash Pods to temporarily stun Rey Dau, creating openings for powerful attacks. When it unleashes its lightning attack, capitalize on the opportunity to strike its glowing red horns (enter Focus Mode for better visibility) for significant damage.
Wear Element-Resistant Gear
Fortify your defenses with element-resistant gear. The Hope Armor set, with its Divine Blessing skill reducing damage and offering resistance to lightning and fire, is a solid choice. Consider enhancing your elemental resistance further with a beneficial meal. If dodging proves difficult, stay close to Rey Dau's legs; it primarily attacks areas in front and behind it.
Pay Attention to the Environment
Rey Dau's flight patterns offer strategic advantages. In the open plains, utilize Vine Traps near the lone tree to briefly stun it. Exercise caution near its nest, however, as its follow-up lightning attack in this area is particularly potent.

How to Capture Rey Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing Rey Dau offers alternative rewards. Reduce its health to near-death (indicated by a skull icon on the mini-map), then deploy a Pitfall Trap (Shock Traps are ineffective against lightning dragons). Quickly follow up with a Tranquilizer before it escapes.
