In Avowed, upgrading your weapons is crucial for survival. Early game encounters feature mostly Common (Level I) weapons and enemies. However, the difficulty quickly escalates to Level II, demanding Fine (Level II) gear. Here's how to acquire and upgrade to this superior equipment.
Upgrading Weapons and Armor from Common (I) to Fine (II)
While some Fine (II) weapons and armor can be found or purchased, others require upgrading. Avowed uses a two-part system to track gear effectiveness: Quality and Level. Quality is indicated by a descriptor, color, and Roman numeral. Common gear is Green (I), Fine is Blue (II), with three intermediate levels (+1 to +3).
To upgrade from Common (I) to Fine (II), locate a Party Camp workbench. Each upgrade level (+1 to +3) requires specific materials, varying by gear type. After reaching +3, you can upgrade to Fine (II) using Adra—a rare crystal often obtained from quests, merchants, or by dismantling Unique items.
Finding and Purchasing Fine (II) Weapons and Armor

Upgrading is resource-intensive. Alternatively, you can find Fine (II) gear early in Dawnshore, though it's rare. Level II enemies, particularly Bounties, sometimes drop Fine (II) gear, but Common gear is significantly less effective against them.
Paradis, accessible after defeating the Dreamscourge bear boss in Dawnshore, offers another option. Two sister merchants near the Bounty Board sell Fine gear: Merlylin provides magical items (grimoires, wands), while her blacksmith sister sells standard weapons and armor (pictured above).
