bimmer-tool: Your BMW's Diagnostic Companion

bimmer-tool empowers you to diagnose and address issues in your BMW vehicle. The app offers comprehensive functionality, including fault code reading and clearing, DPF regeneration initiation, and live engine data monitoring.

Compatibility Notes:

For BMWs manufactured before 2008, functionality is somewhat limited. A K+DCan USB cable is the recommended connection method; wireless ELM adapter compatibility may be inconsistent or incomplete.

Supported OBD Adapters:

• ELM327 Bluetooth: May be slower than USB; only genuine or PIC18-based adapters are compatible. May not function with older engines.
• ELM327 WiFi: Potentially less stable than Bluetooth; may require disabling mobile data.

Quick Start Guide:

1. Connect the adapter to the OBD II port.
2. Turn the ignition on.
3. Connect the adapter to your phone (USB, Bluetooth, or WiFi, depending on your adapter).
4. Launch the app, select your car's model and year.
5. Choose your connection type, adapter type, and communication protocol.
6. Tap "Connect."

Limitations for Older Models (Pre-2008 and E46/E39/E83/E53):

K+DCan cable connection is mandatory; only the engine ECU is supported. Wireless ELM adapter connectivity may fail.

Troubleshooting:

• "No response" error (pre-2007 vehicles with BT/WiFi adapters): Try selecting the "ATWM" option in advanced connection settings.
• Connection issues: Force-stop all diagnostic apps (including bimmer-tool), restart your phone, and retry the connection.

Permission Rationale:

• Storage: Required for USB adapter support.
• Photos/Media/Files: Enables CSV file creation.
• Bluetooth: Necessary for Bluetooth adapter connectivity.
• Network Access: Required for WiFi adapter functionality.
• Location: While theoretically possible to determine location via Bluetooth, this app does not utilize location data.
