To embark on The Tournament quest, you'll need to meet Gyoji, a resident of Yamato. After you've taken down several members of The Shinbakufu, Gyoji will be waiting just outside your hideout, eager to discuss the tournament. The secret fighting arena is nestled at the Ominesanji Temple in Southeastern Yamato. For easy access, synchronize with the Ominesanji Overlook viewpoint to the west, which will serve as a fast travel point and allow you to switch characters as needed.

Upon arriving at Ominesanji Temple, have another chat with Gyoji. He'll brief you on the challenge ahead: you must win four one-on-one duels before facing the ultimate champion. Once the cutscene ends, ring the bell to kick off the first fight.

How to Complete The Tournament in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Tournament is a high-stakes gauntlet of one-on-one battles. Fortunately, you can take breaks between fights, using the time to heal with rations and upgrade or swap out your weapons and armor. To triumph over your opponents, we suggest wielding a long katana as Yasuke, and mastering the art of dodging and parrying to exploit their vulnerabilities. Utilize abilities like Power Dash and Payback when your adrenaline is high enough.

Knowing the weapons your adversaries wield can give you a tactical edge. Here’s a rundown of the fighters you’ll face:

  • Lady Masago uses a Naginata.
  • Lord Suguru wields a Katana.
  • Lord Hokuto battles with a Kanabo.
  • Lady O-Sen fights with dual Poison Katanas and throws ranged items.
  • Lord Unkai uses a Naginata and can heal by drinking if you keep your distance for too long.

After defeating all opponents, speak with Gyoji once more on the hilltop. He’ll express gratitude for your efforts and promise to notify you of future tournaments. It’s during this conversation that the "Test Your Might" trophy should unlock.

Best Loadout and Skills for Tournaments in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

For The Tournament, the Long Katana is your weapon of choice. Opt for the highest rarity available and enhance it at your hideout’s blacksmith to the maximum level. Consider an engraving that boosts Armor Damage or Armor Piercing for an extra edge. Your armor selection is crucial, as it not only boosts your health but can also offer combat-altering abilities through engravings.

Before entering The Tournament, secure the Samurai Daimyo Armor of Legend by defeating The Ox, a Shinbakufu, and earn the Protector’s Armor by conquering one of the Castles. The former engraving increases damage by 75% but caps your health at 25%, while the latter enables you to parry unblockable attacks. Combining these engravings can drastically reduce fight times, provided you parry effectively.

Invest your Mastery points into the Long Katana and Samurai skill trees. Prioritize maxing out Combat Expert to enhance your melee damage, and unlock Power Dash and Payback for a competitive advantage.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on March 20th, offering players a chance to test their might in The Tournament.
