By SebastianApr 21,2025

Hasbro has exciting news for fans of Magic: The Gathering—they're bringing the beloved card game to screens everywhere. Partnering with Legendary Entertainment, Hasbro is set to develop a comprehensive shared universe that will span both movies and TV shows, with the movie taking the lead as the first project.

"We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering," stated Legendary's chairman of worldwide production. Legendary Entertainment, known for blockbuster hits like Dune and the western Godzilla series, including Godzilla vs. Kong, as well as Detective Pikachu, is steering this ambitious project.

While details are still emerging, it appears that Legendary's adaptations might not connect directly to the Magic: The Gathering animated series previously announced for Netflix. However, there's a possibility that plans have evolved, and the animated series could now be integrated into this expansive shared universe.

Magic: The Gathering, a trading card game launched by Wizards of the Coast in 1993, has become a global phenomenon. Wizards of the Coast became a part of Hasbro in 1999, further expanding the reach of this iconic game.

Hasbro has a rich history of transforming its popular products into cinematic experiences, including franchises like G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons and Dragons. Currently, the company is developing several projects, such as new G.I. Joe films, a fresh Power Rangers movie, and even a Beyblade film, showcasing their commitment to bringing their beloved IPs to new audiences.
